Running Marathons – The Breakthrough Experience without Running
For me it started just like the above.. I did not want to pass up the opportunity of meeting up my friends, who by the way are ex Indian Navy officers, to catch up and talk of the days present, past and look ahead to the future. When we met up I had no idea I was heading to a livewire inspiration session over a meal. In Coaching Parlance- This 2 hour meet up had more conversions and enrolments I have seen over the last month… LOL. There were a total of 4 new signups to the meditative mantra named RunAMarathon.
The inspiring lessons from the meet up were
1. The mind precedes all phenomena
3. You know there is a breakthrough when you inspire others to commit to an intention, however new the concept is
5. When you come from a deep desire to help others-The fire just keeps spreading
First and foremost as most of the runners will tell. It is mind over matter. My two friends at 39 years of age had completed 21 kms by being physically fit of course, but most importantly it was their minds. The thought process & the thoughts themselves which occurred when they ran the 21 klicks. When asked they stated – it was befitting the tag line of the marathon “going beyond myself” it was about pushing ourselves beyond what we thought we could do, achieve and be. To go that extra mile, first in the mind and then physically taking one step after the other to get to the finish line.
In addition to this, from my personal experience of running some, I found that long distance running created a meditative state where it is just you, your breathing, your next step. Awareness is enhanced to a fine degree that you become one with the running. This is similar to meditating
So imagine you are sitting in a presence of a person who has experienced breaking of old belief systems and moved beyond. When he tells you- Harry you are next – join up and get going. The authority in the words cannot be ignored especially when the energy levels are so high up. That is the power of influencing profoundly through you own experience. It need not be limited to running marathons only, it is applicable to anything you do with passion and experience the happiness of doing it. Specially applicable when it challenges limited thinking patterns
On hearing the inspired call to action you are committed to do it, your mind starts the process of manifesting the thoughts to actions. An intention is formed in the mind and a certainty is attached to that intention. A knowing evolves within and you know that you will be able to do what is required by taking actions appropriate to meet the goal keeping the purpose clearly visible in the mind. One of the sure fire ways of achieving your goals is to personally commit to it. This is breakthrough- when another person inspires you to transcend your thoughts of what you think can achieve.
During our meeting a couple of them have never run a marathon before, that did not stop them from committing to the challenge of going for their very first run irrespective of their age or other limitations
Finally the purpose of inspiring us to join up for the run was a deep desire to help us. Help us to stay fit, to move beyond boundaries we create for ourselves, to push us out of our comfort zones, to understand the importance of setting life intentions aligned to live better. When one comes from this space there is a fire that runs wild. This is so much like what happens in a coaching relationship.
What really happened was that more people were inspired in turn to join up and be part of the next marathon run in Dec . This is how change can spread taking leaps and bounds.
My appreciation and gratitude to Vijay and Ankur the two marathon runners and all the participants who took part in this run. They have been instrumental to light up the fire, for many more , to go for change.
You too can go for change by signing up for the next marathon i have been inspired to run- Goa river run 2016… See you there . Happy running two feet
