How do the lessons of the past come back to us?
Visit to a Dargah
A few days ago, I was able to complete one of the goals that I’ve had on my goal list for a while now.
The goal was to go to places across India visited by three masters Paul Brunton, Paramahansa Yogananda and Radhanath Swami
One of the places closest to me was in Pune. The Dargha of Hazzrat Babajan..
PAUL BRUNTON
In the early 1900 Paul Brunton visitied Hazrat Babajan and published the details in his book “A search in secret India” publsihed in 1934
He writes this….
HAZRAT BABAJAN, THE WOMAN FAQUEER
“Her voice is extremely feeble; her words emerge slowly and with much difficulty. Is it possible that this aged and decrepit fleshly frame, this haggard and huddled figure, contains the soul of a genuine faqueer with wondrous powers? Who can say? It is not always easy to read the pages of the soul by the letters of the body”- Paul Brunton
Hazrat Babjan is still known for her miraculous powers and one can sense the presence of the soul at the Dargha.
MY INSIGHT
What interests me more is the Insight I had when I visited the place along with my close friend and business partner.
Sitting there in silent contemplation, with the sounds of the afternoon traffic in the background, I was transported back in time.
Even though it was the first time I was at this place, the underlying message was that today’s visit was not the first. It’s just that I was there now in a different body. I have stood here countless times through the many pilgrims, seers and seekers who have been here before me.
Putting it down in the language I could at that time, here is what I noted down
“All those who stood where I stand, made their journeys as I have, accessed the universal mind, worked miracles, are all teachers.
The best part is, I realized , that a trace of all their experiences, their journeys, their learnings was also done by me. I am and have been a part of them as much as they are part of the universe, albeit at an atomic size.”
THE METAPHOR
As I shared the experience with my friend, he compared it with the metaphor of the ocean and its drop.
The drop of the ocean is identical in quality to the water in the ocean, only that it stands out by its self. It has all the trace elements of what is contained in the mighty ocean, though not in the same magnitude and size.
CONCLUISON:
As much as you have an independent body & ego identity, remember that you also have a mind. This mind is not relegated to the organ called brain, but exists everywhere in your body. This mind of yours is also a part of a larger universal mind and has all the qualities of that universal collective mind, only not of that magnitude and size.
This same mind has and will continue to be part of the collective learning of the countless people present now and of those who have been. So the wisdom of the ages is yours to utilize and serve others with.
So, don’t judge people by their bodies or their behavior or actions or even their ego. Be led by this statement by Paul Brunton “It is not always easy to read the pages of the soul by the letters of the body”
Do share your experiences of your journeys that have been the source of insights.
